Description
OLD CRUSTY BURNER SEEKS COPILOT FOR EARLY ACCESS PDX/BRC RUN
YOU: You are a mature, experienced, competent, organized, early riser, and have your ticket in hand. You can guarantee that you’ll be ready to leave AT THE TIME WE AGREE ON from within the PDX metro area (or somewhere along the route, Salem or Eugene, say, or maybe Bend…Lakeview…?)
ME: Hi, I’m Shug. Former (*very* former) Burner returning to the Big Dance after a two-decade hiatus. (Yes, there’s a story behind that. No, I’m not going to tell it here – we’ll have hours to swap “True Tales of The Man” once we get rolling.)
THE ROUTE: PDX – EUG – OR58 – OR31 – SUMMER LAKE – CEDARVILLE – NV447 – GERLACH – BRC
TRAVEL DATES: LEAVE PDX WEDNESDAY 8/26. ARRIVE BRC THURSDAY 8/27.
ITINERARY: Leave PDX Wed 8/26 AM: Arrive Summer Lake Hot Springs 8/26 PM. Leave Summer Lake 8/27 DAWN. Arrive Gerlach 8/27 AM.
THE RIDE: The passenger seat in rented U-haul van, along with 50-100 cubic feet of cargo space for all yer crap.
WHAT YOU CAN BRING: Totes, coolers, camping gear? Sure. Bike? Yeah, probably. Art project, stuff to BURN? Hopefully! A rack’s worth of costumes? Uh, maybe. [Stuff that BMORG expressly prohibits? Let’s, uh, talk offline…]
WHAT YOU CANNOT BRING: Large shade, hugely heavy and/or bulky items, pieces longer than 8′, stuff that needs to be strapped to the roof – uh, no can do.
DON’T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT: Other People’s Gear, garbage bags full of rando crap, open totes, bags, or boxes, loose gear, watermelons, feather boas, glitter, fragile shit, 400 lbs of airplane mechanic tools…you get the idea. No. NO. That’s spelled “N.O.” Seriously. If I see piles of unorganized crap waiting pathetically at the pickup site like so many landfill candidates, I will just keep driving.
THE DEAL: I drive; I buy the gas; we travel on my schedule. You will have to put up with an old, crusty Burner for 20-30 hours, and pay for your own overnight camping spot at Summer Lake, but otherwise, this ride is Free. Of. Charge. Pay it forward!
THE PERK: I will snag another 8/27 EA pass for you if you don’t have one. Help me help the Barbie-barians put up shade for Barbie Death Village – and enjoy BRC before the crush!
BONUS: Priority consideration given to rhythm section (bass, drums) musicians and ESPECIALLY to other horn players. Include your musical details in reply – genres, equipment going, any plans to play while there, etc.

That’s
9 7 0 0 . 5 0 5 . 3 0 5
And make it good, ok?

That’s SHUG. [Usually yelled at top volume, as in “SHU_U_U_U_G !!!”]
