Description

Hello “Big Tooth” your somewhat friendly playa power guy (as long as you don’t touch the generator). I have been a playa power expert for over a decade and have provided power for camps such as Playa Alchemist (pyramid), Dustfish, Brûleé, and my home camp, Slutgarden (which will be returning in 2024!). I am also a John Deere certified diesel technician. If you want to know more about me there is an article in the Hive you can take a look at, just go to “Theme Camp Builders”, then click the “Electrical” category, and go to the large grid option. there’s good info there.
So why am I providing this information about myself?
Well, I want to share my more than a decade of Esplanade power experience with large 3-phase camp power grids in an effort to help those who might need some help with camp power grid things like grid design/equipment list creation, equipment sizing, machine questions, equipment modification/repair, and I’m happy guide people to solid connections to rental equipment. I can even offer advice regarding RV electrical system repairs provided you do not utter the words “air conditioning”. My particular areas of expertise are 3-phase power grids, commercial diesel generators, and camp electrical math. While I can help with these things if you are nice to me, I prefer to help with these things that it can be more difficult to get help with please. I remember when I started doing this long ago and it was somewhat difficult to find solid advice for the larger stuff from a playa perspective, and looking back, it caused me to make some “Safety 3rd” type of decisions as a result.
Here’s the deal, temporary power can be really safe and a great thing to add to your camp, but implemented incorrectly this stuff can kill you. This was a tragic lesson we learned in our community in 2023, and this is what has spurred me to put myself out there and volunteer some of my time to help ya’ll do this safely and efficiently. Warning, I can be a bit snarky, but if you are patient and have legitimate questions I will help you. The reason for my introduction is that people rely on power grids and I wanted to establish that I am highly qualified to dispense such advice, not just some crystal gripping hippy that connected 2 solar panels and a Honda generator to a shit-box RV who now believes they can single-handedly save the world from carbon emissions, lol. (I warned you!) 😉
If your camp is struggling with such things, or think you might, please reach out to me now as I get much busier as we get closer to the Burn, but right now I’m still pretty slow. I’d rather help people now than struggle to do it when I get asked for help on playa, ya’ feel me. Let’s get’r done and have a safe year out there, I’m happy to help.
