Tennis at Burning Man, Wanna Help?

Hi Family!

Nibbles here, amongst other things I’m the Events Lead at The Pleasure Dairy (4:15&D), but I just had a zany idea that I’d love to pull off with the help of complete strangers.

I think it’d be FANTASTICALLY silly to play tennis at Burning Man. Whacking it (a tennis ball, that is) has long been one of my favorite activities – it’s very hard to master, but is incredibly satisfying as a physical medium for accessing deep flow. To me, it is a spiritual practice, and I’d love to help other burners access the joy I feel when playing.

With that in mind, I’d love to bring that particular flavor of magic to Burning Man, and throw at least one ridiculous tennis-themed event in Deep Playa. A daylight event might look like a Burner’s take on Wimbledon, with sexy retro all-whites, sweatbands, wooden rackets, some skilled demonstrators, a group tennis lesson, mini-games, and lots of balls flying around in the dust.

If there’s real enthusiasm amongst a rad crew, and we wanna go whole-hog, I have a vision for a nighttime version where we add UV paint, black lights, and a whole lot of unhinged crazy to create a whole new version of night tennis.

At present, the primary need for executing this silly endeavor is sourcing or build the materials for a tennis court: we’d need lines, a net, wooden rackets, an umpire’s stand (we could build a flat-pack version?), balls, and (potentially) night-light materials.
