Playa Dust Tray
Stella Bay, MFT
Improve your own mental health by helping others. Receive peer support. Gift radical self expression, creativity and your love of art. Decommodify psychotherapy.
Inspired by the Burning Man Temple Guardians, Zendo and Person-Centered Expressive Arts therapy.
We need your help, your constructive criticism, participation and volunteering! In the next week or so we want to move this idea from the drawing board stage to give it a test drive with an online inclusivity celebration!
Whole proposal here:
Playa Dust Tray will be a Decommodified Expressive Arts event to be featured on Burning Man’s Kindling website.
Participants will do some Radical self-expression: any kind of art. You will be surprised by how much symbolic relevance, engagement, stories, dreams, unconscious possibility, aesthetic distance and insight into the Self can be found by taking a deeper dive into the simplest crayon scribble with a good listener. In addition to a virtual sand tray, participants could share something they are building, dance, make music, paint, wear a costume, recite original poetry or prepare a Zoom screen share of a Burning Man photo collage. This is the unique and authentic gift of participants. Expressive arts can even reduce anxiety and ameliorate the effects of depression, trauma, grief and loss.
This event will use the Person-Centered expressive arts counseling triad theory and practice along with the Burning Man Temple Guardian and Zendo peer support model to develop a training for volunteers. Volunteers will participate in a training to improve their listening skills, do a shift on Zoom as a listener and have a chance to integrate and get support themselves after the shift. Participants can become volunteers by going through the training. Volunteers will have an opportunity to improve their listening skills. The 3rd member of the counseling triad will be there to evaluate the listening skills learned and support the listener.
I am asking for help from PCEXA, The Temple Guardians and Zendo to help me develop this training and to find people who are interested in volunteering.
A virtual shelf of art from Burning Man that could be moved to another sand tray screen.
A video training for volunteers to watch to improve listening skills.
A real time live video chat automatically creating groups of 3.
