I am a naturalist and musician seeking a home among any who have open minds. I will bring creativity, diversity, and fun to your camp with fluency in three languages and a variety of instruments (violin, voice, bongo drums, ocarina).
I love self-expression and am seeking a place where I can be myself without being judged as I sometimes am by my own family. I recently came out as a pansexual and the first thing my father said to me was, “You just want attention.” I am seeking a place to be myself and explore my identity so that I may grow to accept my father for who he is – a product of his experiences. All people bring diversity to this world and none should be excluded. Focusing on differences creates bias against certain social identities, but if we look past those differences we will find that we are all kin with equally unique life experiences.
Although I am studying evolutionary biology, I am also a passionate writer and poet. Many mistake my quietness for shyness, but in reality I prefer to choose my words carefully and with intention before saying them. Everything we say, to ourselves or in public, has an impact. Words are not just language, but they are also a tool that should be taken care of.
I love all rock music and can talk for hours about how The Beatles’ music had an impact on Bob Dylan’s songwriting even from across the seas. Dylan was a folk artist you say? 😉 All western music is rock music being expressed in different stages of its life. All stages are equally important because they are a reflection of society. And most importantly, rock music sprouted from the drumming circles of slaves during some of the USA’s darkest times. We often give credit to artist’s who stole music from those who are less privileged. Anyway… I could talk about this for hours.
I have recently become interested in meditating and the mystery of the human consciousness. My scientific background makes me believe that it is a product of our brains, but my creative side hopes it is more than that. Practicing meditation and mindfulness brings us closer to all those around us, but most importantly ourselves.
I am also in love with all animals, but especially those who are diapsids (reptiles and birds). I prefer to see “pets” as companions instead, for even though they may view the world differently than humans, they still “view” it in one way or another and that makes them living beings.
If we make it our duty to show compassion to one living creature (plants included) a day, the world would be a better place. This country’s polarization is a product of curiosity, a feeling that came so easily as children, being replaced by bias. Let’s be curious and change the world together.
