Description
CALLING ALL POC BURNERS
The Black Burners Union (BBU) camp has 10-12 openings for people of color (POC) who want to connect with the Multicultural People of Color Neighborhood (MPOCN). This new camp has 6-8 founders who are mostly college students or new grads, plus me, a badass old lady. Some of the founders have burner experience and some not, a few hard workers, and several burners that like to turnup.
Our camp supports untethered campers, which means you can come as a solo camper or bring some buddies but be sure to bring everything you need to get along for the week including your own tent, food, water and shower, if you want one. Because you’re bringing your own shit dues is cheap, only $50 per person. We are bringing a few things to share with you like a big propane grill so YOU can cook your heart out, a generator to power our lights and for short-term charging of miscellaneous stuff, and a jumbo-size (20’x40′) shade tent lounge filled with plenty of creature comforts.
We are offering the community a few things: 1) We are bringing around 20 second-hand bikes for members of our camp and the MPOCN that are traveling a long distance and have no way to transport a bike. The bikes will be allocated in a pre-sale, $100 each, and distributed on playa on day 1. The bikes will be yours to decorate and keep. 2) We are building a giant art wall out of our shade tent from last year. We hope that people will drop by and contribute their creativity with spray paint. 3) On the flip side of the wall, facing our lounge, we are going to delight the coach potatoes with a movie screen where we will project concert performances from Coachella, Super Bowl half-time, etc. Dancing around our firepit will be encouraged. We could use a theater-style popcorn machine if you have one.
We need everyone to help with set-up (Sunday), and help with strike and MOOPing (next Sunday), and in between the two Sundays your time is your own. There’s no working shifts serving food, giving massages, teaching classes, etc. etc. Your job is to be a conflict-free, cheerful burner and support the other camps in the MPOCN by attending their events. BTW, almost all of the other 18 camps in the MPOCN are also accepting new POC camp members. I’ll gladly introduce you around if our camp isn’t a good fit for you.
We don’t have any free tickets to give away, but we do have a few tickets for sale for POCs. We are LGBTQ+ friendly, no age discrimination here, and we are smoke friendly.
Hit me up and reserve your piece of dirt today.
