Hello! We are a Bay Area-based, honorarium-supported, art support camp building an immersive science fiction art installation (awfulsgas.com), and we are seeking a kickass kitchen lead to help feed our crew!
Most members of our ~30-person crew have worked together on previous honorarium installations, and we will also have a few very capable first-timers.
We already have a full kitchen equipment setup, as well as menus and techniques honed from previous years. We are looking for someone to evaluate our crew’s food needs, organize cook days, set up meal schedules, organize equipment, and make sure our kitchen runs smoothly!
We are NOT looking for a camp cook: we share meal prep/clean up duties collectively when on playa.
We have 1-2 comped tickets/WAPs/VPs to offer to the right person or people for the role.
Our whole crew is working collaboratively to make this project a reality. While there are some discrete roles, we are experimenting with a distributed leadership model and offering creative contribution opportunities in every facet of this project to the entire crew, including you! We are currently in the middle of major construction, and we will be adding details up to the event.
The project, a gas station set 100 years in the future, involves engaging with the reality of climate change and asking questions about how we can enact a brighter future. We are aiming for a carbon neutral or negative impact with the project (yup, including transportation) and would love to work with someone with low waste in mind when creating this year’s kitchen. (Yes we are aware that propane is not a carbon-neutral fuel, we can talk about offsets or other strategies for dealing with this)
