Edit 07/30/18: I’ve come to the determination I have to shelve my dream until next year. The optimist in me wants to keep hope alive, but the realist in me understands, that it would be far better to build an amazing camp next year, rather then anything less this year.

I certainly don’t want to take from another camp more worthy of utilizing such valued space- as it’s only the right thing to do. And…I definitely understand that Placement reviews first-time (and other) approved camps, for living up to what they promise, in consideration for placement in future years, and for good and noble reasons. The risk is just too great, with the consequences of screwing a fellow camp this year, and screwing the chances of my camp for next year.

I am going to leave this post up for a while, simply for networking purposes. Thank you to all that have replied to it! And I would love to meet you guys.

I will be on the playa starting Saturday night. See you out there!

Original post:

Ok, here’s the brief background:

I worked tirelessly to design a camp called The Flint Fix-It Fort, a general use repair camp with a machine shop inside. The powers that be thought my efforts worthy enough to approve my work as an officially placed theme camp, with a designated spot on the playa, and 10 early access passes.

My 3 cousins and I were going to be the main builders, with a few other remote people I connected with on ePlaya. I was staffing for a minimum of 10 people, but could accommodate up to 20. I already have most of the materials needed to build the camp.

Unfortunately, my cousins (who all work for the same company as travelling solar panel installers) got a huge contract that they have to do, and now can’t go (yes, I notified placement already).

I’m saddened to the core, as my hopes for this year are on life-support. I can suck it up and wait until next year. But the dreamer and optimist in me wants to fight on. The help I need is NOT money or resources. I need people to help me build!

What can I offer?

What I can offer is can be seen in the Google Drive link below- it’s a video I made to show you the camp, what we’d build, and what you’d have at your disposal.

If any of this sounds hugely fascinating, I would love to hear from you. But…there are two caveats.

The first is that I have only a few days that Placement gave me to notify them of what I am doing, one way or another. If I can’t staff my camp, I’ll have to give it up, as it’s only the right thing to do. I need to know ASAP.

The second is that old saying, “the road to hell is paved with good intentions.” I used to throw raves and festivals. I love my people, I really do. But I also know my people, and call a spade a spade. And they can be flakey at times. There are plenty of horror stories of people desperate to join a camp and swore all the great help they’d be…but once they get there and actually had to do a little bit of work, well…like I said about good intentions.
If you are TRULY someone that wants to devote to a cause and can follow up with action, then this might be a great possibility to do just that.

What do I need?

I actually only need a handful of good people. You don’t have to be super technical or a DIY guru. You just need to have a good soul AND a reasonably decent work ethic. I designed my camp to be pretty simple and easy to build. There isn’t a lot of crazy construction and it’s pretty straight forward.

Anyways, I’ll leave it there for now. Hit me back if any of this sounds like you. One way or another, I’ll see you on the playa.

Thanks for reading.
