Meditation Station Installation

Hello! First off — the location of the build has not been set yet. It will be either somewhere in NYC or SF.

Looking for designers, 3D modelers, carpenters, and transportation logistics coordinators!

I’m building a meditation station installation for this year’s burn. I have always spent quite a bit of time meditating at Burning Man, always wishing for shade and some kind of community around me. A place where people can rest, sit in the shade, and meditate. No doubt a few people on psychedelics might stumble upon this oasis and perhaps be nudged in the direction of awareness rather than implosion.

I see a circle of seats (cushions? with backs?) and some kind of obelisk in the middle, with small speakers embedded within it that cycle between guided meditations, meditation talks, and silence.

There is a truly DIY version of this where I chain together found objects (beach umbrellas, boomboxes, lawn chairs) to jerry rig this installation. I actually think that aesthetic would be funny and fitting. And there are other versions that I see where it looks chic-er and cleaner.

I’m still playing with the various styles, but some initial reference images attached.

A little about me — I’m Eric Wu and I founded a clothing brand in 2015 (instagram.com/publicspace.xyz), a little more than a year after going to Burning Man for the first time in 2014. I’ve been to the Burn 6ish times and will be camping with Camp Contact this year. This will be my first ever art installation, after vowing that I would not return to Burning Man unless I spent a significant amount of time creating a gift. I will be personally funding this project.
